Preparing Mussels for Bait

Collected some mussels whilst I was worm drownng yesterday and decided to prepare and freeze them today………. seeing as I had got the irononing done.

First part of the process was to immerse them in hot water to get them open …..but not overcook them, then drop them in cold water.

Next stage as to open them and carefully scoop out the meat.
I decided to prepare them in two ways, on kwooden skewers and also straight onto Sakuma Manta Extra 3/0 hooks. I will clip the hooks onto the snood with a Gemini clip.

It was a long drawn out effort (taking about 2hours!) so I hope that they produce the goods.

With whatever “bits” I had left over I put into tea bags.

They are now in the freezer and I will eport on know the results after using them …next week hopefully.
